Robert Maurice Jones
18 Years Old

April 30, 1972 to March 26, 1991

Robert Maurice "Rassi" Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio, was a fun person who loved life itself. He had his own way and it wasn't always right, but also was not so wrong. His mother, Irish Hayes, loved him very much as only a mother can. She knew Robert was a good person with a heart of gold. He was full of laughter and always had a smile on his face.

Every day Robert got up around 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning to eat a bowl of cereal. Robert, his mother and brothers and Mr. Hayes used to play a game called "Tell It Like It Is." They got together and acted out as one another just to see how each looked to the others. That way they would know how the other felt and they could work on the bad to make it good. Robert and his brothers were taught by their mother that love begins at home. She always told them that when they were away from home, the love would go with them and that if they loved their mother, they would love their girlfriends. Robert loved and was loved.

On March 26, 1991, 18-year-old Robert Maurice "Rassi" Jones was shot once in the back and once in the side by Rico Keith, Dale Nelson and Jemal Jones (aka Jemal Fox). Robert and Jemal Jones had argued over a girl shortly before Robert was killed. Keith, Nelson and Jones asked Robert to meet them at an appointed place, the 2nd Ward, to make up. But when Robert arrived, his three assailants were waiting for him with guns.

Robert's mother, Irish Hayes, has many unanswered questions and believes his murder was never properly investigated. She believes that people are afraid to give information about her son's killers for fear they will be harmed.

No charges were ever brought against Robert's assailants. Dale Nelson and Jemal Jones later shot at Robert's older brother, Dallis Jones, and again, they were not charged. Nelson and Jones are now dead.
