David Alan Stockman
24 Years Old

December 14, 1956 to March 30, 1981

David was a wonderful young man, just beginning his career. He graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in business and finance. He had accepted a position as a management trainee at Pontillo's in Minneapolis. He was expecting to be given a management position in the near future.

David enjoyed outdoor activities, skiing and skating, and snowmobiling in the winter, and canoeing in the summer.

Family meant everything to him. He loved his little nieces and nephews and they loved him dearly in return. He had a great sense of humor and was liked by all his associates and friends.

He was very devoted to his faith and to his church.

On the evening of March 29, 1981, he and his staff had closed the cafe and were engaged in cleaning activities. William Dye entered a rear door and demanded that everyone lie on the floor. David was told to give him all the money from the till. As he was getting up from the floor, he was shot. Dye fled out the back door. Dye was subsequently apprehended and tried in Ramsey County District Court. He was found guilty of second degree murder. He is in prison serving a 25 year term.

David was taken to St. Paul Ramsey Hospital where he died at about 2:00 am. We were called in Royalton at about midnight. We rushed to the hospital only to find that he had passed away.

The loss of one so dear is nearly impossible to comprehend, especially at such a time when we were all so enthused that his plans and aspirations were at such a peak. There is always a sadness even, when in reminiscing, we find bright memories.
