Chad Stapleton
34 Years Old

September 18, 1969 to May 22, 2004

Have you ever known someone whose smile was completely contagious? Chad Stapleton’s was and do you know why? Chad enjoyed life. Yes, he had his share of trials and tribulations but he really loved to live and experience all that life had to offer.

Chad was a loving father, an adored son, a trusting soul mate, a beloved brother and loved by so many more. It sounds cliché’ but everyone truly did love him and enjoyed his company. He had no enemies and was probably more giving of himself than he should have been.

Chad liked the simple things in life...a cookout with the family, time spent with friends and playing with his son. He enjoyed NASCAR, college football (Go Blue!) and all kinds of music. Like the rest of his family, Chad loved good food. His favorites were mashed potatoes and his Mom’s potato salad.

Chad was the first one to help someone in need. He never judged; just gave what he could. People often came to him for help because it seemed he could fix anything! At times, he was nothing more than a big kid, playing air drums to Metallica, pestering and teasing his loved ones or yelling at the top of his lungs, just because he could. Most of the time, though, he was the wonderful man he was always meant to be; working hard to improve himself and striving to care for all his family.

Chad was blessed with having an amazing eight year old son who is “a carbon copy” of him. He was also blessed with the children of his girlfriend; a remarkable ten year old and a precious three year old boy. These three children were “the light of his life.” Chad never realized that he was the light for so many other lives.

Our lives are forever dimmed with Chad gone. While we will all miss him terribly, we know that Chad will always be with us. He lives on. He is in his son’s smile, the memories of so many and the hearts of us all.

On a rare night out, Chad had been at a local pub with his friends earlier on the evening of May 21, 2004, having a few drinks and enjoying the conversational “catch up” of their lives. Nothing of circumstance happened during this time.

After saying good night to his friend, Chad drove the short distance home to his girlfriend and her two children. While trying to exit his car, which was parked in front of his apartment building, he was attacked. Chad struggled with his assailant but was stabbed several times in the process. He died at the scene. Police think there was more than one attacker with the motive being robbery. Two witnesses saw one possible assailant fleeing the scene.

On July 21, 2004, an arrest was made. On July 28, 2004, a grand jury decided not to issue an indictment for the person in custody.

The police are still investigating.

Chad’s loved ones and friends are still praying.
